A meeting at
The Eagle on Old Street for a pub quiz in summer 2019 saw the foundation of Bishop's Fist. (The pub referenced in the children’s nursery rhyme
Pop Goes The Weasel, fact fans!)
Alkamal Rahman, Sabrina Rahman, Chris Thomson and Sanch Ka all expressed keen interest in joining Division 3. Sons o' Desserter Jason Hill was at hand to show the newcomers the ropes and a new day dawned.
Joining the hopeful newbies in September was JJ Orimoloye, alongside former Sons Arising player Nick Briggs, as well as James O'Malley and Kim Fanso, who was able to play briefly. Simon McGovern completed the line up.
Results in 2019 sadly didn't fall Fist's way and by the halfway stage of the season the team had played 10. And lost 10. But, the Fist philosophy is one of inclusivity and having fun, so the losing streak didn't hurt that much. Well, not that much! Things were about to change, however and on the 14th of January 2020 the team found itself 23/15 ahead at half time against Royal Sunset with that first ever victory on the cards. Sadly a fightback from the Royals ensured it was merely a draw that the Fists could celebrate. However, the confidence boost from this saw a win come soon after, against Grapefruit and league respectability was secured.
In season 2020-21 Brian John and Lloyd Clarkson from the Accies bolstered the team and the team also enjoyed valuable contributions from Alex Bulgarelli.
What could lie ahead in the seasons to come? Only time will tell, but the team takes pride in being one of the easiest-going teams in the league and enjoys being part of the QLL quiz family.
